    Mama David goes Drag Racing

Did mama David update her car for the coming Bug In?
I wish she had. Ok, her car is superb as it is, but to me this Canadian late-looker really has the perfect look!
If there's one car I really would like to have...

    First VW-powered Twingo

Knowing Dr jeckill, he always comes up with something out of the ordinary so this time he converted his front engined R Twingo in to a full-on VW-powered rear engined monster. Stories goes that the small 30pk-VW powerplant enables the Twingo to pull massive rearwheel stands. Should be good for some fun at the first European Bug-In...

    Mr 30k

So the 30k visitor aka Mr 30k has send me the printscreen as a proof.

So he will get his present in the form of a 6-pack Cecemel as was promised. Cheers Turtle...

    30k

Another thing that caught my eye when I came back from my Paris Shopping Weekend is the fact that the DVF-blog-counter almost reached the 30k barrier.

So it's time for a little competition so the lucky-one (DVF'er not included) that hits the magical 30k hit will get a nice present in the form of an bottle of Brazils finest Cachaça (not the one in the picture 'cause this one has allready lost half of its contents). So if you are Mr 30k and would like to claim Brazil Finest, just mail me the printscreen as proof.

If by any chance the 30k-visitors should be a slow turtle (they don't seem to be able to cope with booze) we'll give him a frsh bottle of chocomelk...

    More NOS hunting

While I was spending the weekend with my girl in Paris, I won another NOS-type 3 Goodie on e-bay.
This time is it an in-the-box Type 3 6 Volt Dashboard clock so now I have a spare for my ride. When I continue shopping e-bay like that, I will be able to build myself a NOS-back by the time I'm rebuilding my precious beauty...

    Reincarnation of the Turtle

While some DVF'ers are getting their rides ready for the next season, a friend of ours knows as Turtle, is also busy revamping his sweet 59.
The 59 was once equiped with a set of OG Empi 5's but he sold them in favor of some OG golden ET-mags to achive the ultimate Califarnia Look ride. I'm shure these Golden ET will contrast superbly against that blue body.Further plans for his ride include a total rebuild of his 30hp engine and kit it out with a nice Riechert carb set-up. The plans for the Turtlemobile shure sound promising...

Getting Ready for the new season

Looks like a lot of things will change when Die Volks Freunde will hit the new VW-season.

Some cars are in the work, others have been recently...

For instance, Jelle is working on a Karmann which will get that 80'ies Cal Look and allready sorted out the Spider wheels that will find heir way on it.

    N.O.S. Type 3 bits

I've been hunting some Type 3 parts lately on the web and was able to lay my hands on some N.O.S. and good used parts for our beloved type 3's.

First thing I won on e-bay was this N.O.S. was these piece of sheetmetal. It's the backside of a sparewheel whell and seems to be in fairly good condition.
The second piece of sheetmetal that I bought is this sill which is also a N.O.S. parts

Another N.O.S. part I tracked down is this rear decklid for a late Variant. This piece seems so suffer from some minor surface rust on the backside.

The last N.O.S. item I laid my hands on is this Service Booklet for a late type 3. Not of very greath value but just nice to have...

The last parts I bought that I like to introduse are these very good used rear reflectors for a early type 3. They don't show any signs of rust what so ever so they could come out handy whan I restore my 1500S.So that the stash of Type 3 goodies I recently purchased thru internet.

    Bug-In Candidate?

Anyone fancies a 10 second car for blasting down the strip at the First European Bug-In?

Well you might take your chances and place down your hard-earned cash and buy this VW-powered Fiat X1/9.

Yes you read it correct, this awesome firebreathing monster is up for grabs and could be just yours for the reasonable price of 10000 pounds. If you want it, you better get in contact with Ian Clark of Wolfsburg Performance Services.

Pay the price and you are ready to blast down the 1/4 mile in just 10.8 sec in this 80'ies build hybride build by the infamous Jack Sachette and powered by a 2276cc Wolfsburg Performance build lump. The gearbox build to withstand the abuse was build by the Cogbox.

And if that still ain't enough, this isn't just a race car, it's build to very high standard and could as well be a showcar and features high tech features all around and custum aluminuim panelling.

You might have noticed that I took the pictures from the Outlaw Flat Four website so the pictures are courtesy of Outlaw Flat Four where this fine ride competed last season.

    Type 3 Powerplant

Yesterday I was surfing around the many VW-blogs when I saw these pictures of the new powerplant that is being build for the Speed Shop Notch on Ercos. Well actually the Ercos are replaced with Fuchs which is a pitty in my opinion 'cause I loved the Notch Erco'd.

When I saw thes pictures, I started drooling right away. Damn, I would love to have such a powerplant (maybe a bit smaller) in the back of my daily driven Notch. Makes me hesitate which project is the most important: the new Notch powerplant, transforming the Mexican bug into a Late Looker or the 64 that needs some freshing up and conversion it into an 70'ies Callooker... Can you help me out please???

    First time out...

... since Ollie Fat Chick got his new ride height.

Now we can really see were we are going with the new (improved) stance. I couldn't get the bus out earlier 'cause the rearbrakes needed some tune-up so new shoes, cilinders, parking brake cables and drums were replaced today. The least you can say is that this Fat Chick has had the works in the past days. The first small testdrive was OK but it was rather a small testdrive in the street because only two bolts at each frontwheel isn't an ideal world to put the pedal down.

Now you might be wondering why I fitted the porsche rims only in the front, well the answer is quite simple: we're waiting to get the right adaptors/spacers to fit the wider rims in the back and the bolts are on their way here too.

To get an idea, the rearwheels were set in place...

    Ollies Fat Chick

The worx on Ollies bus are still going on.

The rideheight is set a little higher to be able to use the bus to carry things around while Ollie's rebuilding his house. But no worries, there is still some room for adjustments as the frontbeam received adjusters to be able to dail in the desired height.

The front end has been updated by a set of dropped spindles, Koni shocks and 20mm thick adaptors to get the wheels in place. WXith these nice Porsche 16 inchers, this Fat Chick will look like it came straight from Die Deutsche Autobahnen...
While bussy, I took the oportunity to relocate the muffler as my previous attempt to get the BAS-exhaust fitted wasn't up to the mark, so I took it apart and started over again. After some cutting and welding, the muffler is now shortened by 10cm and now sits nicely under the wing. So now Ollies bus features a GAS-exhaust.

Another problem that needed to be sorted out was the location of the oil cooler. The oilcooler was placed between the engine and chassisleg but didn't get enough cool air the get the temperature at a desired level so it needed to be relocated as well.

I made a bracked from scratch and mounted the cooler thanks to some welded in bolts right in front of the automatic gearbox and should now get more than enough cool air. But first we need a long testdrive to be shure of it so we'll have to spank the 2 liter type 4 breathing thru a pair of 44 IDF's...
