At this moment almost everyone in the DVF is working on their cars. Olivier is restoring his T2B double cab. As you can see in the pictures he's changing the nose. When cutting out the original front they were so happy to see the bus was equipped with the rare Vedett bottle accessory!

The Bluestar on top is Dave's future family transport. Plans are a new engine and new paint! We'll keep you informed with the evolution of all our projects.

DVF racing at DDD6

Some pictures found on the web of the two dvf cars racing at DDD. Jelle's car ran well and went back into the 13's. For my first quarter mile I was quite happy doing a 17s35 with a 1600cc.

Belgium week

Olive from 'Karmann en Montagne' just spend a week in Belgium.

He stayed at Kevins place and we took him around our beloved town of Ghent one evening so he got the know the most beautifull town in Belgium.

Olive also took the oportunity to taste Ghent's finest Gentse Stoverij along with some Hoegaarden. After that he enjoyed some Jenever at its best.

So Olive, hope you enjoyed your stay in Belgium and maybe we'll see you again next year.

DVF at EBI2

DVF had a small display at EBI 2. At the display we handed over the dashplaques that were given to those who did the European Bugtour in the Chimay area.

We got a lot more pictures but in my opinion these are the best I've found.
Not surprisingly, they were taken by DFL'er Olaf so this means they are of excellent quality.

Me saying 'Hi' to herr Felix from DFL while he was washing away a hangover with drinks for fishes.

Back after some work

After some minor work, Steven finally got the one and only RIK back on the road.

The work was neccessary after a Total Loss declaration caused by a 'little' kiss in the back. So some months of hard work had been after him and now, Steven can enjoy his Ultima Edition back.
Testdrive seemed OK. Nice on you Steven, keep it and enjoy it while you can...

After a weekend at Chimay getting the European Bugtourin' organised and some heavy off road with the bus (movies to follow), this is how my little T2a looked like.
I think it was time to do something on the stance of the bus.

So I got started I welded some CSP adjusters in the front beam and this is how things looked this evening.
Yes indeed, you saw it right, the difference is 18 cm.

Abd with the 135r 14 tires, I don't have to worry about tire to fender clearance.

Next thing on is sort out the rear end to get it more to fit with the front.

Bus is on the road

Well, after the second attempt, I got my T2a through its inspection.

The first time, it failed because of a missing rubber on the brake pedal (no kidding), wrong tires and to much play on a balljoint.

The balljoint were replaced with new ones and Big Tall Eddy von der S has lent me his wheels.

At the second attempt, the bus sailed through without a single remark, so after some time, I can now start rolling it. But first it needs some care in the height department.

Did you notice that the bus also lost its grey spots somewhere down the road?

This morning I found my new ride out their like this. Hmmm I love snow...

Nice Late Looker

While Pascal and I were going out to check out his to be project, the seller Robin turned up in a nice Late Looker.

The car was built in 1996 when it was completly redone. Robin admidded to have commited a few youth-sins when building the ride back in the days but I think the ride still looks good.

One of the sins are the wings that have been welded to the body and filled up with filler and the removal of the fresh air intakes behind the rear window.

The rest of the car look like a real Late Lokker according to the books: 4.5 and 5.5 inch Sprintstars (one of the best 4 lug wheels), teh stance is spot on, the dual quiet pack, dechromed...

You name it, Robins ride has it.

New Project: Welcome back Pascal

After a long time of hesitation and a lot of regret after selling his notch a few years back, Pascal decided is was time for another type 3.

This time it wasn't going to be a finished ride, but a full on project.

After some looking around, we (Pascal and I) came across the perfect project. The deal didn't include just one early notch, it came as a 2 car project.

As the blue one is almost beyond repair, the grey shell is in pretty good condition. So the plan is to use the parts of the blue one, repair the grey one and repaint it and dress it up with the donorparts.

As both cars are 64 1500S with push botton dash and red needle speedo, the end result will be a profectly rebuild 64 1500S.

So after a little break, Pascal is back into the world of the air cooled VW. Welcome back P and hope to see you cruising around town pretty soon...

Bugtour: Full

Allready 130 persons in 60 cars have joined in so we had to stop the inscriptions.

The only thing we can do if you haven't joined in yet is mail us and we'll put you on a back up list, this way we can contact you if suddenly a place comes free.

DVF-projects

As you can see, Dave has made some more progress on his Bug. The frontend has been stripped and the frontbeam has been taken off.

In this picture you can see Dave's dad, Daniel, his Italian Cabrio also stripped of. The cabrio is also in need of a resto and respray so the duo Prové is doing thier stuff each on their own ride...

The one above is the one that caused a lot of damage. The balljoint has obviously snapped and fucked up the inner wing. One lesson from all of this: check your balljoints regulary and you will save yourself a lot of headaches and time...
And while Dave and dad are working on their rides, herr Gunter has managed to get one of his rides back on the road. Finaly, the 181 got a few km's under its theet. Just check the happy face of Matti while he gets the chance to roll aircooled instead of the Cleaned 6N on bags...

Future DVF Late Lookers

Speaking of Late Lookers, some time in the near future, DVF will be featuring two Late Lookers of their own.

The red one is Wimme's project called El Picaro. It's based around a 86 Mexico bug which is in still a project currently. El Picaro will be painted in VW Paprika red, rolling on detailled Pedrini's and some more fine extra's...

The second one is Messie's future ride. This time the base for this Late Looker is a 68 1500 model.
Messie has allready made some tough decisions about the colr and the wheels. As you can see the color has been set on a Porsche bleu and the wheels will be Fuchs (but the easy to get Flat 4 versions) so this Looker will sport some lovely Porsche details.

And the rumour goes that DVF will have another Late Looker. Jelle's is out on the search for a good late model bug as well to transform into a fine 80'ies inspired late one. Go for it Jelle. Give those late bugs the respect they deserve...

Late Lookers made in Japan

I've been reading the new Ultra VW which covers a report about the worlds best Cal Look clubs.
One of these are the Japanese hosted Der Winning Bug so I visited their webside.
To my surprise it's one of the only Cal Look clubs that features a whole bunch of Late Lookers.
The pictures below show the two most beautiful post 67 bugs.
I just love this one, maybe it has something to do with those very sexy detailed Pedrini's.Just look at them, just perfect wheels for your Late Lookers, this time not painted black but a dark shade of grey. Real wheels porn to me.

The one obove also caught my attention. This time, this late one even lost its chrome trim. The only thing I'm not a fan off are thos elephant style rearlights. I prefer the smaller ones...

But a perfect ride if you ask me...

Dave's project

Here are some pictures of the progress on Dave's ride.
It's always a nice place to work at Dave's garage, sometimes a little difficult to stay focused with all those nice ladies, but that's the challenge.
The damages parts have been taken off so a closer examination is possible. Things looked worse when the car was standing there, but now things are fully on show, I think the inner front wing is repairable...

DVF photoshoot

This morning, DVF has held a photoshoot for the Bugtour. Luckely the heathing was on so we could pos in our favorite summer outfits.Suddenly, Jelle started to pray to the DVF gods, guess he must really like it here in Ghent among aircooled friends.
And while Jelle was praying, Timme was trying to put some new life in this tree by inserting some of his finest seeds...
Damn, we have some crazy people in our rankings...

My Own Project: the GAS-bus

While on the topic of projects: I also did find some time to get the steering sorted on the GAS-bus.

A reconditioned steeringhouse has been fitted, the steeringcolom got repainted and a new contactswitch has been intergrated (not an original one because the ones for early bays seem impossible to get).

This way, the steering is sorted out and the bus now turns without a single noise as it should.

In the meantime, some more engine parts did arrive as well.

As I want to keep the bus hot in the cold winter times but with a more powerfull exhaust for the prepped engine, big-bore heatherboxes where ordered. The 38mm merged header will be adapted the line up with the heatherboxes and while working on it and welding it all back together a fuel ratio sensor will be crafted in to monitor the escaping gasses and fine tune to reconditioned 36 IDF's.

Dave's project got started as well

The picture above was once Dave's very fine bug. But one time, disater struck and a ball joit decided to come apart.

A lot of damage was done to this perfect ride and a lot of thing got bended.

After some time being left alone, Dave has grabbed to bull by the horns and got started on restoring the ride to its previous glory.

I didn't recieve any pictures of the progress yet, but as soon as I recieve them, I'll pos them and keep you updated.

Another DVF project in the runnin

A lot of projects are curently being built among the DVF-members.

For example, herr Gunter is rebuilding a Karmann Ghia. The front end was in pretty bad shape so no corners were cut and a better front end from a donor will be crafted in.

It seems like the Karmann will need some more work to get it roadworthy again.
I hope to see this project finished soon as it will be a very fine ride...

As being some kind of type 3 pervert, I couldn't let this one slip out of my hands.
Sometimes things like that happen when you go shopping with your little boy. You go out to buy some babytoys for Vicje and you end up with a toy for the big boy aka daddy...

This fine Maisto came as a total surprise as you don't find a lot of type 3's in those small versions... If you look closely, you can even spot the Fuchs rims in a wicked combination. I doubt you can actually find them in these size compared to the size of the car...

Today, longtime DVF-member Gerardo contacted me and asked me to help him out.
Due to a sudden change in his life, Geert decided to move out of the country and try his luck somewhere abroad. As a matter of fact he's going to following his girlfriend, which we recently met and happens to be a very fine lady, to Bubbla land.
As taking everything along is a little hard, Gerardo decided with pain in his heart, to split with his beloved 66 and so this very fine ride, which needs some attention, is up for grabs.
The 66 comes as shown with the mws BRM-replica's, CSP-diskbrakes up front, Puma adjustable beam and stereo.
If your are interested, just contact me.
Sad to see you go, Gerardo. You always were a good friend to me but hey, planes do fly so Bubbla-land isn't that for away. Only 50 euro's and we meet again...

Calisto got delivered

Earlier this week, Calisto, the daily driven 67, got delivered to the new owners Manuelito and Koentjee.
Just admire Koen's happy face. Boy does he know how to smile...

So we have another 67 rollin' in our beloved Ghent and hopefully a fresh set of DVF-members.

Ultima Edition

Our friend and DVF-member Stefano aka Moddersmurf also started a blog about his love for the Ultima Edition.Once upon a time he had this very fine example running on 2L Fuchs wheels. When Stefano wasn't to laizy to put the redrilled drums and disks on, this Ultima was 'cruisin' on 14 inch Fuchs wheels.

But sometimes when you use your beloved ride as a daily driver, bad things do happen and some kind of idiot decided not to stop for the red light and parked his fucked up Japanese dumpster in the rearend of the Ultima. Needles to say, the bug was damaged pretty badly.

But knowing Stefano, he won't be put down by this disaster and some crazy plans are allready made to make this a very crazy ride.

So stay tuned on his blog (to bad you have to understand Dutch to read it) for the progress on another crazy project...

Engine upgrade

I started to collect a few upgrade parts for the Bus-engine. The plan is to bin the s/p heads and replace them with the better flowing d/p heads. Other goodies include S/S valves, ratiorockers (1.25 or 1.4 I still have the choice), Cro-Mo push rods, dual springs and to top it off a pair of IDF's. The carbs will be operated by a state of the art CSP-linkage.
Next on the shoppinglist is a set of forged Mahle's and merged header with big bore heat exchangers.Another fine piece of CSP-goodies are these bus beam adjusters. The curent ride height is a little on the high side so the frontbeam also needs some attention.
Only thing left is to find the time to do all this and I will have a nice low and a little faster Fat Chick...

Calisto in the works

May I present to you: Calisto, the new car our good good friends Koen and Manuel bought as their daily driver. Some of you might allready know this duo as they were the friendly host of 't Frietkot as the last edition of the Bugtour.

Their new ride is a pretty solid 67 that was a real bargain. They instantly baptised Calisto.

The only thing that needs to be done to get it on the road is some repairs on the bottom of the A and B-post to get the doors closing properly.

So watch the roads when driving in the Ghent area and homp if you see them behind the wheel of their new found pride and joy....

Somewhere down in the Grimm Hills, a little Turtle has laid down his magic hands on some sheets to produce these nice templates to get the GAS-bus looking as it should: a period styled in-your-face rolling advert for the GAS-service.
So this weekend I'm planning to make the long trip to this tiny ill-bred hole somewhere on the globe to collect the Turtle's handy work.

Der Renn Kafer Cup

Is (or was) a very nice competition based in the US where perfectly built Cal Looker compete against eachother in Show n Shine and on the dragstrip.

Theses series hosted some of the best US built Type 1 and Type 3.

The rules of Der Renn Kafer Cup made shure the cars were built to a very high standard and featured some very hot engine combos but they remainded roadlegal.Pictures above show some of the contenders of the last couple of years.

Within the next couple of days, I will post some more detailed pictures of the competing rides so stay tuned...

Thanks again to Modder, the crazy dude withe the crazy plans, I was able to lay my hands on a NOS-parts for the GAS-bus.

One of the quarterwindows must have been broken in the past and the glas was replaced with a plexiglass insert. Not quite original in my opinion. Sadly these items are a little hard to find because they were only a standard fitment on Deluxes.So now thanks to Modder I can fit a nice original one.
Another piece I'm trying to locate are the vents in the sliding door and the left side in the rear. The one in the sliding door alos has plexiglass fitted and the left one is broken on the spindle, so if anyone happens to have a pair laying around you could help me a lot with selling them to me.

Update on GAS-bus

In between some jobs, I've had some thing now and then to work on my to-be daily 69 deluxe driver t2a.
All the brakes are replaced and bleed so I have some good stopping power.
The terrible gearshifting is also sorted out and the Deluxe goes thru the gears without a problem.
The front interior had a clean. Some new kick-panels have been placed and recieved some speakers to make long trips more enjoyable.

I also managed to locate the missing missle seats, the color isn't as the rest (black) but at least I can take 7 passengers along. Thanks to Steven aka Modder for bringing over the seat from France while returning from Italy.

Something else I've been doing is tear a good used steeringbox apart and give it a good clean and some new paint. This one will be fitted inthe near future so I'll get rid of that anoying noise when turning.

Another jobs that need to be done before getting it registered is sorting out some electrical issues.

Other plans for the GAS-bus is lowered it some 15cm, give it some Turtle designed signwriting, pepp up the engine so I have to ditch the single portheads and replace them with some dualports and give it some better breathing...

Found this picture of a very nice Notch somewhere on the www. It's a little too much on the low side for mee but those Gasburners suit the brown (seasand?) oh so well.
Maybe some day, my Type 3 will get it's OG color back...

I think, DVF is defenitly in the running for fasting growing VW-club in the circuit.
With the ever increasing population inside DVF, I think it's my duty to warn the new parents to be carefull when you give your newborn son a toy.

Lots of aircooled cars this weekend at the 'rally pittoresque'. The event was sponsored by the official Porsche dealer Carrera Motors. This meant a lot of very beautyfull old porsches between the Aston Martins, Austin Healeys, Ferrari... and some beetles. We had a very nice day and next year I will be there again.

While in the south of France, we couldn't resist to leave the families by the pool and Messie and I jumped in the the car for a 3 hours trip to Allevard near Grenoble to visit a local Aircooled meet.

The locating of the meeting was superb and we saw some very nice cars.

Early Deluxe Bays made me think of my new ride...

One of the most beautifull sprintcars at the Euro Bug in. A real cal look car just like in the california bug-ins. Our fellow clubmember Jelle went into the 13 sec again and was very happy with it. Too bad he broke his transmission, that's why we didn't see him racing on sunday.

Today, I made the small trip to the city of Ninoof to collect some EBI-weekend passes.

It was a little last minit due to my new born and first we had to be shure we had a decent place to stay. I found one so I went to buy the passes to avoid long waiting at the gates.

Fat Chicks on the web...

Since owning my own example of a Deluxe Fat Chick, I've been searching the web for Fat Chick related blogs.

And guess what, I've found some very nice blogs with very fine pictures of very lovely fat chicks, (sounds like an impossible thing but I'm talking cars here).

The pictures of these beauties weer found on the Fat Army Chick-blog.

The Fatty above really caught my attention 'cause this one seems to have the right stance and wheels, good for a super combo.

The second one is another early Deluxe Fatty just like mine. Looks like this one has also been imported from the USA. Stock wheels and slam tires do the trick of a Killer Fat Chick as well.

Two very nice examples that were apperently on display in Budel last weekend...
