Another DVF Project
This nice Karmann is another DVF project in the worx. Well, actually the worx haven't started yet so there will be some manpower needed to get this ride into the nice looker it's planned to be.
At least the first outing is allready planned, I wonder if the owner will meet the deathline...

New Ride in town
Today I laid my hands on a new ride for a ridicule low price and managed to salvage it from the scrapyard.
This 64-early 65 has been standing outside under a tree for the last 10 years. It was last used by some Dutch youngsters who used this bug to roll around in Portugal and then came home to Belgium in it. Once in Ghent, they left to bug ata local workshop and that's were I found it after 10 years outside.
Some might consider it a perfect Rat but as I'm not into these new trendy rides, one day it will be rebuild as a perfect Looker in true Cal Look style.
The exterior suffered from the time outside but it still is a great base. It needs some TLC in the most common places such as the heather-channels and rear corners. Other parts needed seem to be the fronthood and two doors as these are beyond repair. But the plus side is that the OG wings are still in good shape and will be reused.
Another nice plus is the fact that this bug features a brick-red interior and the seats are in very good condition which can't be said about the doorpannels.
This badge is evidence of the 30 years this bug has spend in hot and sunny Lisboa in Portugal. Too bad I didn't find any 30 year old Porto in this ride...

Progression Continues
It was a quiet day at G.A.S. so I continued the worx on my future ride. A friend delivered me a very handy tool to put the body on and I now have the possibility to lay it on its side. Can come out handy during the worx...
One of the things I did is cut these hole in the rear innerwings to get some airscoops mounted and to get easy excess to the carbs of the little stroker that is planned to take place in the back...
After cutting the holes, it was time to tackle some welding on the chassis.
This small section were the frontbeam is mounted was the only place that needed some TLC so I made a couple of patches and welded them in. After some sanding, the repair is almost not visible anymore. Now the only thing that needs to be done to the pan is strip it and get it to the sandblaster and apply some epoxy-based topcoat and it should be good to be build up again.

The Parts Bibble for Type 3
And this is the Ultimate Catalog for all of you who are restoring your beloved Type. Published by Volkswarenhaus in Germany. I just got a copy of this fine book delivered by Big Tall eddy Von der S and believe it or not, this catalog is trully full-on. Not convinced? Just check out the site of Volkswarenhaus and you'll know where I'm talking about. By the way, they're not only spelialized in Type but have a whole lot of parts in stock for every aircooled VW. The site is worth a visit...

Again Type 3 Porn Time
I know there are a lot of Type 3 lovers out there, so from time to time I've just got to fulfil their most erotic dreams by posting some very nice rear-ends. What do you think about this fine collection? Yes, you guessed it right another picture of the Type Three Day in Japan. These Japs really are type3 perverts. Who can blame them?
Another very fine looking Notch, perfectky detailled and some cools rims. Anyone has a clue about the type of wheels. I have to admid it's the first time I saw these...

Ugly duck in the birdhouse
Volkswagen could well be one of the brands in the automobile history with the most build models, some of them are real beauties, others sadly aren't. One of the ugly ducks in the range of Volkswagen could be this Variant build by VW Brasil. O.K. some of us have taste for ugly ducks (I'm not pointing my finger at anyone) and might even like this model and would like to have one ruling the streets of Europe, but I'm certainly not one of them. I'd rather drive the smaller brother build by VW Brazil clled the Brazilia.
Just check out the line, if there even is a line in the monster... If I should bet and say which member of the DVF-ranks would love to have one like this, I would shurely say it would be Timme aka Dr Jeckill (still not pointing my finger) 'cause sometimes he does have a strange taste when it comes to cars...
Some brave men even bother and add some bling to their Variant. Check out those Type 3 style bumper overriders, aftermarked rims, white turn-signal lenses, rain guards and extra chrome trim around the wheel arches...

Give me pink...
Another fine type 3 that caught my eye is this 80'ies styled Variant. Again that perfect stance, chrome 5-lug Sprintsars and some cool pinstripes n scallops do the trick for me. Makes me thinks of the days when my Notch gave me pink...

Coolest Notch Around?
Found these pictures of the coolest notch on the Japanese Type site. Once a year the Three Styles Volkswagen Type 3 Club helds it Type 3 day. One of the regular visitors of this event is the guy with the Peru green Notch as seen above (if that's the OG color, it should date it being a 68-69 model). And boy, does this guy knows how the make a Notch look Hard-core. The right stance and the use of T-bars (mounted upside-down) make the look of this ride. Damn I love it. Makes me think to mount a pair of those nice T-bars on my ride to keep my bumpers from rusting during those wet winter months certainly as I'm using my Notch as a daily driver these days.

Progression
Between some other jobs, I've worked a little on my project ride. The front starts to look good but needs more work to get it like I want it to be. But seeing the progression makes want to continue. I would like to get this project finished by next season so I will have to get my hands dirty to get it finished. If you think i won't make the deathline of the European Bug-In you can always set some hard cash on it... Do it if you dare...

New DVF-ride
Herr Gunter just send me some pictures of his new ride he's just acquired in the form of a 1961 Karmann Ghia. The ride is defenitly very low, should be almost complete but looks a little scruffy. If features a brand new 1776 powerplant. We don't know what Herr Gunter has planned with his new acquisition but we all hope he'll get this cool ride back to its former glory...

DVF in VW Speed Magazine
Taking your ride to meetings sometimes pays off with an international report in a nice VW magazine. Jelle and I took our rides to Das Drag Day this summer and we got featured in VW-Speed.
So guess we have to thank Georg Otto for putting Die Volks Freunde on the international VW-club map. Thanks Georg and see you in Hannover...

El Picaro in the worx
Well, you guessed it right, I started the worx on my ride again 'cause I've set myself a deathline to get it finished. Yes indeed I've stupid enough to set mysef a deathline to get El Picaro finished but I don't know if I'm gonna meet the set date 'cause there's still a lot of work to do before it will be roadworthy again.
This is how my ride looked when I got it back from Dave who did the welding some months ago. He did the welding 'cause back then I didn't have the place nor the equipement but things have changed so I can complete the project in good order.
This shot shows the donor piece from my cut up 1300S. El Picaro suffered from severe thinworm due to a badly filled up antenna-hole. So a donor piece has been welded in.
Today, between some other jobs, I grinded away the welds and smoothed out the pillar so no traces will be visible once the ride is finished but first of all, a lot of sanding needs to be done and some other aeras need some loving and care...

Messies Wheel Deal
Messie changed the looks of his 67 last week by fitting 356 style wheels which will do their thing during the cold and salty wintermonths here in Belgium. He opted for the small and fat combo measuring 4.5 inch in front and 5.5 inch in the back. next thing up is ditching the shitty BAS-exhaust in favor of a nice dual quiet-pack exhaust the give the ride a more period perfect feel. I can't wait to see the changes and their effect... Fingers crossed...

Tolerance is bliss
Yesterday, we had some very fine free concerts in Belgiums major cities to make people think about tolerance. So me and Messie were out there enjoying the atmosphere and music while drinking some of belgiums finest Vedette. One of the artist was Luc De Vos representing his girlfriends and boy, was she one hell of a girlfriend. Some might know her as 'Lekker Beest' (and this is still what she was and is). She's is a true Ghent girlie and uses our favorit RRRR while singing. She even got Luc as horny as hell and he spontaniously started licking in her ear while she was doing an effort to sing as good as she was able seeing the circumstances. Oh Boy, wish I was licking...
