Project El Picaro
Today, we all had a free day over here in Belgium so after a small visit to Messie, I continued the worx in Mi Taller. No welding and grinding today as to much noise would upset the neighbours so I started the mighty task of cleaning up the chassis so it is ready for the sandblaster. This picture above shows the chassis before the worx got started.
This shot shows the chassis with most of the sound-deadening removed. Nice to see the floorpans don't need any welding. Guess it pays of in the long term of using a pretty young Mexican build bug as the base for my late looker. While working on he chassis, it exposed some Mexican Buid only features like this nice stamp right above the place where the chassisnumber is located. Looks like those crazy Mexicans are proud of the things they build.
Another Mexican Build only feature are these 4 big holes in the floorpans eachone covered with a glued in cover. What also is typical is the floorpan painted in bodycolor. I guess the body was put on the chassis prior being painted to save costs of extra black paint to cover the chassis. Next thing to do on the chassis is strip down the other side and weld in the Mid Gearbox Mount...
